Saratoga Springs

“Today, Saratoga Springs is a jewel, with a charming downtown which has an abundance of quality lodging, gourmet restaurants, and wonderful shopping. Downtown is an exciting, busy place but within a couple of miles of Broadway, the countryside opens to rolling hills, low traffic, wonderfully scenic vistas, historic sites to see and explore, great roads for cycling, and horse farms scattered throughout. There is wonderful riding east to Saratoga National Battlefield and the beautiful farmland of Saratoga and Washington counties. To the south and west you will find a patchwork of farms, and to the north and northwest the hills of the Adirondacks are waiting to challenge you. Our great mountain biking opportunities attract riders from all over the northeast. There is plenty for every rider.” [Source: Saratoga Healthy Transportation Network]

Hudson Valley Region

“The Hudson Valley Region offers thousands of miles of safe and scenic bicycling. The area is blessed with an impressive network of secondary roads, most of them paved but not heavily traveled. Away from busy arteries like the New York State Thruway, US 9, and US 9W, an unspoiled landscape of rolling farmland, charming villages, and elegant mansions beckons the cyclist. Most of the region is rural enough to give the cyclist a sense of remoteness and serenity, but the nearest town, village, or grocery store is usually not more than a few miles away.
The Hudson River is between a half mile and a mile wide for most of the section south of Albany. Its valley offers the bicyclist an inviting combination of dramatic scenery, splendid architecture, and historic landmarks. The river evokes a sense of power and grandeur—party from its great width, party from the hills and mountains past which it flows, and also from the numerous mansions and estates along its banks. The sublime beauty of the region, accurately nicknamed America’s Loire Valley, inspired by the nation’s first cohesive group of artists, the Hudson River School, during the first half of the 19th century.”
